Chateau Margaux 1993

Since 1978, there have only been two first growths (or two of the so-called ‘great eight’ of Bordeaux) that have been consistently excellent to outstanding - Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau Margaux. The admirable consistency of Margaux is particularly evident in the wines of the 1993-95 vintage. An excellent dark ruby/purple colour accompanies a soft, smoky, blackcurrant-scented wine. Although the 1993 is round, generous, sexy and seductive, it doesn't have enough length to warrant an outstanding rating, but I wouldn't be surprised if this changed with another 2-3 years of bottle age. It is a beautifully made, elegant, rich Margaux that can be drunk now or cellared for more than 15 years.
